So you’re probably wondering why there haven’t been any new posts this past week…well for those in the audience who haven’t been paying attention, last week I moved from Harlem to Ridgewood so a lot of my art supplies and scanner were packed up and my hands were kinda tied. Although now I’m unpacked and getting back into the grove of things, I’m still a bit ticked I didn’t prepare enough stuff to cover the downtime.
Oh well, c’est la vie, but without further ado here’s the little somethings I’ve been able to cobble together during all that craziness.
Besides the conte drawing, the other drawings come from a new Hand-E-Book sketchbook. Coming back to that sketchbook I have to say they really are fun to use. They take watercolors well and as you can see with the “Little Groot” image, these books respond well to brush pens and normal ink pens.
This wasn’t the sketchbook I was planning on using next in all honesty but at the end of the day I’m not complaining in the slightest. Now the next step is to try and push myself to think about what I’m drawing and to use the book not as something to just have to show off fan images but to actually use the book to experiment, jot ideas down, to use it as a workbook for new techniques.
I think as comic artists if we are not developing a story or actively working on a project we don’t really take the time to see if we can develop something new in our style to break out of the pack. Some do, but I think a lot get to a safe zone and stick to the familiar. That’s something I should try to avoid.
Well here’s to a new sketchbook and new creations!
‘Til Next Time,
